The soul speaks in images.

My masks are such images that come both from my dreams and suddenly emerge from my subconscious; but they also originate from myths and traditions. In any case I always witness in astonishment what is being created under my own hands.

My one-year artist's travel scholarship to Indonesia in 1991 already had archetypal symbolic language as its theme, and I traced the images of the soul in Indonesian shadow theatre and other art forms. Later, the search developed into a very intense inner journey in the movement work with Suprapto Suryodarmo.

My first masks were creations of my inner judge, who has the habit of criticising, blocking and slowing down. I brought this sabotaging censor into visibility, so to speak, in order to enter into dialogue with him/her.

The masks are signposts. They refer, for example, to inner shattering, to fragmentation in a cocoon, to naivety, to the inner child, to the board of dualism in front of the (block-)head, to fear and horror, to the cracking open of the tower walls, to a great outbreak or to being a wave in the great ocean. In many cases, their emergence is an expression of a process of ideational realisation. Some, such as the metaphors of the inner judge/censor voices of Momos and Querella, continue to accompany me and I dialogue with them in Free Intuitive Movement.

My masks are markers on a very personal and yet universal scavenger hunt, to which I also like to invite others in workshops and retreats or by simply contemplating the creations.

The masks are also for sale. Please take a look at the gallery and if you are interested in purchasing a mask, please get in touch with me via the contact form.
